The Phoenix Holocaust Association will hold its annual communitywide Yom HaShoah Commemoration

(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – March 28, 2022) The Phoenix Holocaust Association will hold its annual communitywide Yom HaShoah Commemoration to honor the memory of those who perished during the Holocaust and recognize those who survived. The virtual event will be held on May 1, 2022, at 11 a.m. The theme of the program is: Never Again, BUT HOW?

This year’s Yom HaShoah Commemoration will feature a roundtable discussion between high school students and Holocaust survivors, music, and a memorial candle-lighting ceremony spotlighting six Holocaust survivors each lighting a candle representing a million Jewish people murdered during the Holocaust.

Additional participants of the commemoration include: Rabbi Andy Green of Congregation Or Tzion, Cantor Seth Ettinger of Congregation Beth Israel, and Shevet Shemesh Israeli Scouts.

In addition, the event will honor a teacher with PHA’s annual Shofar Zakhor award, recognizing their contributions to the teaching of the Holocaust and Genocide Awareness.

“Like so many events this past year, our annual Yom Hakhoah event will be virtual this year in order to ensure the safety of our guests,” said Eva Flaster, co-chair of the Yom HaShoah committee. “We have worked hard to create the same sense of connectedness that you would experience in-person via this virtual event.”
