Reservations are required. \nDirk Van Leenen was born in 1940 just after the war had begun in The Netherlands. \nHe has several degrees in horticulture and floral design and has spent his life working with flowers. At the University of Leiden\, he studied English and he worked a number of years in Holland as an English teacher. For years\, he used to tell stories about his experiences during the Second World War in Holland and his children and grandchildren always urged him to write a book about those difficult times. \nHis books include “Resistance on a Bicycle\,” “The Americans are Coming” and “The Last Train to the Concentration Camp.” Books will be available for sale and signing after his presentation. \nDuring this program\, Dirk will provide his testimony of survival\, and how Dirk’s father\, Cornelius\, is credited with saving thousands of Jews as he showed resistance on a bicycle. Additionally\, Dirk was on the last train to Bergen-Belsen and was there for one day before liberation. \nHe is married to Cynthia June Van Leenen. DESCRIPTION:Documentary storyteller Rachael Cerrotti\, will tell the story of the rescue of the Danish Jews through the experience of her grandmother\, Hana Dubova\, who was the only Holocaust survivor in her family. Hana escaped Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia for Denmark in 1939 at the age of 14 and Rachael has spent over a decade retracing her history. Using photography\, video\, audio and personal storytelling\, Rachael will talk about how teaching history with modern media and through a contemporary lens can empower students to reflect on their own individual actions and family histories. \n  \n  \nRachael is the author of a book and narrative podcast\, both by the name We Share The Same Sky. In New York\, Ruth taught English at one of the city’s specialized high schools. \nAfter moving to Arizona\, she joined the Phoenix Holocaust Association\, an organization dedicated to preserving the Shoah\nmemory.
