Father Desbois is a distinguished author\, university professor\, historian\, forensic detective and world-renowned human-rights activist. He has dedicated his life to fighting the bigotry that fuels genocide and to bridging the divide between faiths. His ongoing work helps brings closure to victims and survivors of genocide and calls for legal justice for the perpetrators.\n\nFather Desbois will speak at the Memorial Union\, Arizona Ballroom\, on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University. Limited seating. SUMMARY:We Share The Same Sky: The Stories of Unsung Heroes
DESCRIPTION:Documentary storyteller Rachael Cerrotti\, will tell the story of the rescue of the Danish Jews through the experience of her grandmother\, Hana Dubova\, who was the only Holocaust survivor in her family. Hana escaped Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia for Denmark in 1939 at the age of 14 and Rachael has spent over a decade retracing her history. Using photography\, video\, audio and personal storytelling\, Rachael will talk about how teaching history with modern media and through a contemporary lens can empower students to reflect on their own individual actions and family histories. \n  \n  \nRachael is the author of a book and narrative podcast\, both by the name We Share The Same Sky. Ruth is the daughter of Holocaust survivors and has\nbecome an expert on inherited trauma. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in English. In New Jersey\, she taught writing at two\ncommunity colleges. In New York\, Ruth taught English at one of the city’s specialized high schools. \nAfter moving to Arizona\, she joined the Phoenix Holocaust Association\, an organization dedicated to preserving the Shoah\nmemory. As a representative of the organization\, she gives talks throughout the Phoenix area on Holocaust-related books\nand programs. \nRuth is the author of two novels\, Escaping the Whale and the prequel\, The Whale Surfaces. The protagonist of Escaping the\nWhale\, in addition to struggling with inherited trauma\, must also deal with the issues facing her as a woman.\nGuests are welcome with a $5.00 fee at the door.\nRSVPs are required so that we will have enough chairs:\nMerrill Kalman mskbflo@aol.com
